1. What we need to make the app work

Email address — entered once at first launch, stored on the device, and included when a walk report or a story report is sent. Used to identify the sender of reports (if user submits complaints/red flags).

Location — used only while the app is open during a walk, to narrate the streets around the user, build the route, and track walking progress. Location is not continuously tracked in the background and the app must be foregrounded.

Walk summaries — when a walk ends, a summary is sent to the developer’s server (webhook): the email, the city, route shape, duration, stops visited, and similar walk facts.

Story reports — if a traveller reports a story, the report (reason, story text, email) is sent to the same server.Questions asked to the guide — typed or spoken questions, together with the current street/area name, are sent to an AI service to generate the answer. Voice input is converted to text for this purpose.Third-party content — stop photos and background facts come from public sources such as Wikipedia/Wikimedia and map services (Apple Maps). Requests to those services may include the city or coordinates being toured.

Third-Party AI & Mapping Services – Detailed:
To generate dynamic historical narratives, answer interactive user questions, and synthesize voice audio, Footnoter transmits anonymized context data—specifically your current geographic coordinates, nearby landmark names, selected tour themes, and any text questions you type—to third-party Artificial Intelligence providers Google Gemini and mapping APIs (Wikipedia / Apple Maps / Google Maps).

No Personal Identifiers: Your email address, name, or account details are never sent to these AI services.Data Protection: Data is transmitted solely to generate your real-time audio tour. In accordance with our API agreements, third-party AI providers do not use this transmitted data to train their models and are bound by strict data protection standards equal to this policy.

User Consent: Data is only transmitted after you explicitly grant permission within the app prior to starting a walk.
